On March 14, Donald Trump — from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, while in-person early voting was available at two locations in Palm Beach County — requested a mail-in ballot. It was received the next day. His vote was submitted and counted. Public records from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections confirm every single detail of this. Melania and Barron also mailed theirs in the same day.
On March 23, Trump stood in Memphis, Tennessee and said: "Mail-in voting means mail-in cheating. I call it mail-in cheating."
That's nine days. Nine days between mailing his ballot and calling mail-in voting cheating.
Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections records — publicly available, confirmed by a county spokesperson to The Washington Post — show Trump's mail ballot was requested March 14, received March 15, and counted. In-person early voting ran March 14–22 at two Palm Beach County locations, including on weekends. Trump spent that weekend at Mar-a-Lago, a short drive from both polling locations. His Defense Was "Because I'm President."
When a reporter asked Trump at his Cabinet meeting why he voted by mail if mail-in voting is fraud, his response — in full — was:
"You know what, because I'm president of the United States. And because of the fact that I'm president of the United States, I did a mail-in ballot for elections that took place in Florida because I felt I should be here instead of being in the beautiful sunshine."
He then said: "I don't appreciate the question."
So to recap: mail-in voting is cheating, except when the president does it, because he's the president, and he didn't want to go outside. That's the official position of the United States government.
The Timeline of a Hypocrite.
The Actual Fraud Rate. Since He Keeps Bringing It Up.
During the Trump era, four out of every 10 million mail ballots cast have been found to be fraudulent — a rate of 0.000043%. Every allegation of widespread mail-in voter fraud Trump has made has been debunked in court, including by Republican election officials in states he claimed were stolen. The SAVE America Act he's demanding Congress pass would ban most mail-in voting nationwide. The bill he himself just violated the spirit of, from his own estate, nine days before calling it cheating.
